What better way to find out the ins and outs of Manayunk than from the people themselves? It’s another week where we hit the streets for Why I Love Manayunk, to ask Manayunk visitors and residents why they love where they live, shop, dine, and play.
This week we sat with Martin out by the Tow Path to find out his favorite places to hang out in the neighborhood and why he loves to visit Manayunk as often as he does.
Are you a visitor or a resident of Manayunk?
I am a visitor - in the summer I visit Manayunk about two to three times a week.
What brings you to Manayunk as a visitor?
It’s a convenient distance for me from where I live, and I also like to sit here in this little park, sip my coffee, and watch the people go by.
Have you attended any of the events that occur here in Manayunk?
I’ve been to the Arts Festival where they open up the street and shops. There’s food and handicrafts all down Main Street.
What is your favorite thing to do here in Manayunk?
I like having coffee, or iced coffee in the summer, from Starbucks and sitting by this little garden.
What are your favorite places to go when you're eating out in Manayunk?
I’ve been to Laxmi’s Indian Grille and we used to go to the Japanese restaurant, Hikaru, that closed. I’m thinking I’ll go to the Chinese restaurant, Han Dynasty, soon that is next door, it looks interesting.
What recommendations do you have for other visitors or new residents of Manayunk?
If they are cyclists, there are some very nice trails. I use the Schuylkill River Trail, but there’s also some going west into Valley Forge and even beyond that. There are just some really nice areas.
What do you love about Manayunk?
There’s a lot of nice, young people that live here. They work in the city and live here, so it’s a good location for that. It’s also a good place to hang out on summer days like today.
Manayunk is glad to have you, Martin! Once again, keep an eye out for us on the streets - you might be our next featured resident or visitor! If you are a resident or visitor of Manayunk that is interested in being featured, email for details!
