Why I Love MNYK: Meet Ian

What better way to find out the ins and outs of Manayunk than from the people themselves? It’s another week where we hit the streets for Why I Love Manayunk, to ask Manayunk visitors and residents why they love where they live, shop, dine, and play.

This week we met Ian at Volo Coffeehouse, a resident of Manayunk. Keep reading to hear about his favorite places to hang out in the Yunk.

Are you a resident of Manayunk or are you just visiting?

I'm a resident.

How long have you lived in Manayunk?

A year and about two months.

What brought you to Manayunk as a place to live?

Work brought me to the Philadelphia area and I chose Manayunk because it’s a nice little neighborhood that’s not in [the center of] the city. It’s outside so I liked that I wasn’t in the hustle and bustle of the city.

What is your favorite thing to do in Manayunk?

In the summertime, I love riding my bike up and down the towpath, and I love to drink beer and play golf in the area.

If you're eating out in Manayunk, what are some restaurants that you would choose?

There is a bunch, but I love Jake’s and Cooper’s Wine Bar - it’s really good. Sona, the new Irish pub, is also really good. If I had to pick one though, I would probably choose The Goat’s Beard. That’s one of my favorites.

Have you attended any of the events that happen here in Manayunk?

I was here for the arts festival, which was great. I’m mostly traveling for the other ones, but last week I was out walking around Main Street during Stroll the Street.

Do you have any recommendations for visitors or new residents of Manayunk?

I would say that this spot (Volo Coffeehouse) is definitely the best place to get coffee in the morning or if you’re doing business. It’s a nice spot to meet. The towpath is also great if you’re walking, running, or biking.

What do you love about Manayunk?

Just the atmosphere of every place that you walk into is like its own community of people. You can talk to anybody and everyone is very nice. It’s just a nice community. Especially if you live here, you get to know some of the people working at the different places and all of the bartenders are really cool.

Thanks for the recommendations, Ian! Once again, keep an eye out for us on the streets - you might be our next featured resident or visitor! If you are a resident or visitor of Manayunk that is interested in being featured, email for details!

Can someone tell me how I can get in touch with Ian? Since he's such a fan of The Goat's Beard, I'd like to buy him a beer and burger sometime. Let me know and thanks for all you guys do. ~ Sean
