Julie & Karl's MNYK Love Story

Most love stories don’t begin with a dog, but Julie and Karl wouldn't have it any other way. It all started a few years ago when Julie would frequently pass by a house on Cotton Street where a dog she was kinda obsessed with lived. She would knock on the window so she could see the dog run up to the window and say hello, without a thought in her mind that a person actually lived there and owned the dog! She was just smitten with this cute brown dog and it tickled her to see his handsome face at the window. One fateful evening, after getting her cute brown dog in the window fix, she and her friends headed over to JD McGillicuddy's where she met Karl. Before they knew it, the last call lights were on and it was 2 o’clock in the morning. Numbers were exchanged and they went their separate ways.

A few days later Juile headed back to Manayunk for her and Karl’s first date at Winnie's LeBus Manayunk. Karl told her to meet him on Cotton Street where he lived. When she arrived, he was waiting for her on the street when suddenly the cute brown dog shows up at the door and Karl turns and calls out “Come here, bud!” She lost her mind and did everything in her power to not pass out from excitement. All she could say was “You know this dog?!” To which Karl replied, “Yes, this is Beckham. He is my boxer.” They were halfway through their first date when she finally said, “I need to tell you something.” He looked at her with trepidation and she just blurted out “I knock on the front window of your house, on the regular, so I can see your dog!”

Since that first date, Julie and Karl have opened The Wall Cycling Studio in Manayunk, got engaged, purchased their home in Manayunk, had their rehearsal dinner at their first date spot, Winnie's LeBus, got married and used many Manayunk wedding vendors, are the Philadelphia Coordinators of The National Canine Cancer Foundation and are now expanding their business by moving The Wall onto Cotton Street in the exact spot that they met, which also ended up being their first home together. Julie and Karl’s story wouldn’t have been the same if it weren’t for Manayunk. Their love has added to the community in so many ways and we look forward to seeing what happens next in their Manayunk love story!
