EVENT RECAP: Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival & Restaurant Week
By Fall Manayunk Development Corporation Intern: Mary Kate Catlino

Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival proves that nothing brings people together better than food. On September 13th, food trucks and vendors alike filled Main Street with irresistible aromas that made mouths water. Foodies ranging from novices to experts  came hungry and came ready to satisfy their cravings. As the zealous food trucks cooked up their unique dishes, the lines slowly built up, meeting nothing but the expectations of their customers.

Over 50 of Philadelphia's best food trucks drove into Manayunk and parked themselves on Main Street, which was closed to traffic from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thousands of foodies of all ages strolled the streets. With the variety of trucks, vendors and restaurants, foodies' toughest decision of the day was whether to munch on BBQ, pizza, burgers, dumplings, bagels, macaroni and cheese, tacos, ice cream, cupcakes, or popsicles. For many, one over the other was not an option and made it to multiple trucks.

Manayunk's 7th StrEAT Food Festival is made possible by not only the food trucks and vendors, but also community partners, local volunteers, and sponsors. They ensure the safety and fun of all in attendance of the event. Appreciation of the many different aspects that goes into planning events like this, as well as for Manayunk in general, was demonstrated by the amount of people that purchased Manayunk "SWAG." Locals and frequent Manayunk visitors could not get enough of the SWAG! By the end of the day the t shirt colors and sizes were limited and many were sporting the MNYK soft, colorful tees immediately after their purchase.

The weather held off nicely, despite the few scattered clouds and rain drops. On this day we might have experienced the first of many chilly days ahead. The foodies remained on Main Street until the trucks started to close down another successful StrEAT Food Festival. Many left with their cravings satisfied and an even greater appreciation for unique dishes. A huge thanks to everyone involved for their support, participation and making the event such a delicious day for everyone!

Did you also know that the Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival is a kick off to Manayunk Restaurant Week? A two week long promotion, many Manayunk restaurants will offer 3 course meals for either $15, $25, or $35.

Stay tuned for 2016 details!
