Manayunk is your summer “getaway” that’s right around the corner! Just 15 minutes from Center City and most Philadelphia suburbs, Manayunk is a central hub for recreation, shopping, dining, and a perfect place for a relaxing day trip in the beautiful summer weather. Here’s a compilation of some of our favorite things to do during the summer months in Manayunk.
Manayunk Hidden River Kayak Tours - http://www.manayunkkayaktours.com/
We can’t wait to take a tour of the Schuylkill River by KAYAK this summer! Hidden River Outfitters kayak tours lead their tours beginning from the launching deck of the Manayunk Brewery. You don’t have to be an experienced kayaker in order to participate, they provide paddling instruction before heading out on the river! Equipment, instruction, and the guided tour are all included in the cost of this awesome experience. The best part of the Hidden River Kayak Tours is that they are offered at three different times: one for Brunch, one for Lunch, and one at Happy Hour. Get more details about the kayak tours at the link listed above.
Al Fresco Dining - http://manayunk.com/business/dine/
Our Manayunk district offers the largest outdoor dining scene in the City of Philadelphia. No matter what you’re in the mood for, one of our Manayunk restaurants has it on the menu and will serve it to you inside or outside on a beautiful summer night. Perfect for a romantic date or a fun get-together with your friends, nothing beats a warm night outside with a delicious meal in Manayunk.
Live Outdoor Music - http://manayunk.com/signature-events/summer-saturday-concert-series.html
Every Saturday during the summer, Manayunk features local artists from noon to 3 p.m. in Canal View Park. We love this beautiful location that opens right onto the Manayunk Towpath and Canal offers a great spot to sit on a park bench and listen to some beautiful music. Haven’t made it down to Canal View Park on a Saturday yet? No worries, the Saturday Summer Concert Series will run until late August!
Gardening Workshops - http://business.manayunk.com/events/
Tiny Terra Ferma is one of our favorite new stores on Main Street. The garden supply and landscape design shop is full of whimsical designs for indoor and outdoor plantings and gardening. The best part about having Tiny Terra Ferma here on Main Street is that they offer classes to teach you how to grow your own plants even in an urban environment. Check the Manayunk.com Events Calendar to find out when the next gardening workshop will take place.
Biking/Running The Manayunk Towpath - http://www.destinationschuylkillriver.org/
The Manayunk Towpath, nestled along the Manayunk Canal, offers a perfect place to run, walk, or ride your bike! Biking along the Manayunk Towpath will lead to the Schuylkill trail that runs all the way to Valley Forge! Take in the beautiful plantings, wildlife, and the new mural at the foot of the Green Lane Bridge. There is so much to see along the Manayunk Towpath, it is a beautiful place to pass the day.
Public Art
Did we just say new mural under the Green Lane Bridge? Yup, you read that correctly. Take the steps at the corner of Green Lane and Main Street down to the Manayunk Towpath to see the stunning new mural by Paul Santoleri. Back up on Main Street, we love our beautifully decorated Big Belly Solar Compactors designed by the students at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. The students chose an animal indigenous to the Schuylkill River and created it in the style of one of their favorite artists. We love the vibrant colors and eye-catching designs of the Big Belly trash cans that are now decorating our streets!
Shopping - http://manayunk.com/business/shop/
When the weather is beautiful, we believe it is the perfect time to peruse the Manayunk retail scene from end to end. We love to stop into some of our favorite stores to beat the heat and find something new for the home, for our wardrobe, or maybe even a gift for a loved one! The possibilities are endless.
Work Out - http://manayunk.com/business/play/
We all want to keep our bikini bodies in shape for the duration of the summer and there is no better place to do this in all of Philadelphia than right here in Manayunk. Our district offers 18 fitness studios within ¾ mile. Our studios offer everything from rowing to yoga, bootcamp to spinning, and circuit training to outdoor long distance runs. Any way we want to stay in shape, we have the option in Manayunk.
Manayunk Farmer's Market- https://www.facebook.com/manayunkfoodcoop
This summer features the addition of a brand new Farmer's Market every Saturday in Pretzel Park! Bring the family and stock up on fresh fruite and vegetables, organic artisan cheeses, and much more. The Farmer's Market is open from 10-2 every Saturday and makes a great addition to the Manayunk neighborhood!
