EVENT RECAP: 25th Annual Manayunk Arts Festival by Madeline O'Donnell

Event Recap by Manayunk Development Corporation Intern Madeline O'Donnell

With seven categories- Fiber, Glass and Ceramics, Jewelry, Mixed Media, Painting and Drawing, Photography and Wood Sculpture- the Manayunk Arts Festival had an eclectic mix of any type of art you could wish for and more. Artists from all over the country gathered on Main Street bright and early Saturday morning at 5 am to begin setting up for the big weekend. Each artist was eager to share their hard work to the public as they unloaded large vans full of artwork and equipment. Slowly but surely the empty street turned into a giant outdoor art gallery.

By 11 am guests were already showing up to the festival. The flawless sunny weather and the fabulous artwork made for a perfect day. A variety of wide-eyed guests brought excitement to the atmosphere of Arts Festival. It is interesting to watch as different people flock to different types of artist booths. Walking down Main Street, it was not easy to pass by a single artist tent without stopping in and artists were more than happy to tell all about their pieces. Guests were lucky enough to even hear the inspiration and work behind their creations. The valuable opportunity to personally speak with artists sets the Manayunk Arts Festival way apart from many other art related events.

With al fresco dining all along Main Street and music provided by our sponsors More FM, everyone at the festival was in great spirits! Restaurants and bars were bustling with customers, friends and families were laughing and having fun, and everyone was captivated by the impressive artwork! Whether it was your first year or twenty-fifth, it can be agreed upon that this year’s Manayunk Arts festival was a great success!
