The month of March is dedicated to the history, achievements, and contributions of women. Women’s History Month celebrates both the women who have paved the way and the women who continue to break barriers today.
This year we once again would like to recognize just a handful of the women-entrepreneurs here in Manayunk, where we are proud to have over 80 women-owned or lead businesses.
Animedic Veterinary Hospital - Jennifer Jones, DVM
Dr. Jennifer Jones is the practice owner and lead veterinarian at The Animedic Veterinary Hospital in Manayunk! Dr. Jones found her passion for animals at an early age, which led her to study at the University of Pennsylvania, and receive her V.M.D in 2003. Her life-long dream to open her very own Veterinary Clinic led her to Manayunk, where she and her team have been serving the furry friends of Philadelphia and the surrounding area since 2014.
"I'm a people person, I love getting to know people and talking and getting to know their stories about their animals. Being a vet is essentially the same as having a partnership with the pet owner, to ensure you provide the best quality care for pets”, says Jones.
Animedic Veterinary Hospital is located on 102 Jamestown Ave, and online at https://theanimedic.com/.
HotBox Yoga - Eliakim Warren
Eliakim Warren has been in love with yoga since taking her first class at the age of 13. As her passion grew she completed multiple yoga instructor trainings and officially started teaching in 2009. Eliakim now owns Hot Box Yoga in Manayunk!
“Yoga & meditation clear her mind and give her the opportunity to press the proverbial "restart button," reminding her that SHE has the power to choose a new thought, a new belief system, or a new way of being”, according to Hot Box’s Facebook post.
Hot Box Yoga sits at 4163 Main Street and is online at https://www.hotboxyoga.com/.
Vamp Boutique - Teresa Davis
Teresa Davis creates her own fashion trends at Vamp Boutique and is all about revamping your wardrobe. Her passion for fashion began when Teresa was visiting Manayunk to get a manicure and she strolled past a vacant storefront. She had worked in retail as a department store manager and dabbled in selling merchandise on eBay, but in the back of her mind, she dreamed of opening her own store. The rest is history!
“For my customers, rather than get tied into a particular brand, or get stuck wondering ‘Is this my style?’ I get them to focus on how the piece makes them feel”, says Teresa.
Vamp Boutique is located 4231 Main Street and online at https://vampboutique.com/.

She decided to obtain specialized training in aesthetics with the International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine, Institute for Laser Medicine as well as ongoing training and collaboration with a board certified plastic surgeon in Philadelphia.
Van-Otoo says “I want to help identify health preventative measures starting with the body's largest organ; the skin. Your skin can reveal so much about your health and the things that can accelerate disease and the aging process.”
