Hot or Not: MNYK Edition

What's hot and what's so not right now!

Hot: Charcuterie Boards

We know you have also noticed, cheese has taken over social media. From rose shaped cured meats, to soft and creamy burrata, to sweet jams and toppings, we cannot get enough. Wine and cheese have become a dinner staple for any event and creating these boards has become an artistic practice.

Jake’s and Cooper’s Wine Bar offers an array of delicious wines and their own take on Charcuterie.

Not: This Crazy Weather

What is going on?! This past week really was a tease for the spring. The temperature went way up to the 60’s and plummeted to a snow day right after.

Not: Fast Fashion

“Fast fashion is a design, manufacturing, and marketing method focused on rapidly producing high volumes of clothing. Garment production utilizes trend replication and low-quality materials (like synthetic fabrics) in order to bring inexpensive styles to the public.” - Audrey Stanton

Fast fashion has harmful effects on the employees of these companies and the earth. The fast shipping and cheap prices are not worth it. You can do your part to move towards sustainability and away from fast fashion by supporting your local small businesses and shopping second hand.

The Grape Room has been offering live music 5 days a week for 11 years.

“The energy they’re putting into emerging from COVID feels like a renaissance. Booked by Kevin McCall of Philly modern rockers Andorra, it is still very much a space for open mics and musician hangs that spill out onto the picnic tables lining the Grape Street sidewalk in the late night hours.” - John Vettese, The Key

Zesty’s Greek and Italian Cuisine is accompanied by live music every Wednesday night.

“This attractive bistro has an open kitchen and it's as bright as a Neapolitan folk tune and as graceful and earthy as a Greek dance.”

Not: Plastic Bags

“Philadelphians use about a billion plastic bags each year. Unless properly disposed of, many of these bags become litter in our streets, waterways, and commercial corridors. The plastic bag ban will help reduce single-use plastic waste and improve the environmental quality and cleanliness of our city.”

Starting this April, Philadelphia’s city-wide plastic bag ban will be in full effect! Start collecting your reusable bags and tote bags for your shopping trips.
