Development Coordinator

The Development Coordinator is an integral member of North Light’s team, working to increase organizational capacity and sustainability through philanthropic means, visibility to the community and potential constituents, and stewardship efforts. The Development Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring the success of our two main fundraisers as well as in the support of other North Light events. This role will also assist in creatively engaging volunteers in the life of North Light across programs and services.

Organizational Overview

Founded in 1936 as a drop-in center to divert community youth from delinquency and petty crime, North Light Community Center has continually evolved in response to changing community needs. North Light seeksto empower people of all ages and abilities in our communities, especially those most in need, to reach their fullest potential as productive and responsible citizens through initiatives that support and enrich children, teens, and families.

Today, NL is a place where children learn and play in a safe and nurturing environment, teens learn life and career skills to realize their full potential, andfamilies receive critical assistance. Programs include a state-licensed childcare facility with year-round school-age programs, emergency and family supports, college and career readiness for teens, arts and recreation, and access to technology.

Responsibilities

Special Event Coordination & Planning

  • Coordinate and plan all aspects of our two main fundraisers: Pints for North Light (fall) and the Gala (spring)
  • Assist in soliciting sponsors and program advertisers
  • Coordinate logistics around location, decorations, program, silent auction, donated products and services, volunteers, etc.
  • Assist in supporting various aspects of our seasonal and smaller North Light events

Volunteer Coordination

  • Coordinate onsite participation of volunteer groups throughout the year, ensuring communication with agency/company representatives, working with other staff on developing relevant volunteer projects and tracking of participation demographics
  • Update and manage volunteer paperwork
  • Engage with volunteers throughout the year involving them in a variety of NL programs and services.

Development & Communication Support

  • Assist development director with grant seeking, including monitoring grants calendar, proposal development, prospect research and stewardship reports
  • Assist with drafting solicitation letters, grant requests and sincere and thoughtful acknowledgement letters.
  • Record/acknowledge gifts and run reports in CRM
  • Ability to assist in writing and coordinating social media posts and strategy

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED required. An Associate Degree or higher preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in nonprofit or functional area required.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency with office technology, online databases, Microsoft Office, social networking platforms and fundraising Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software
  • Resourcefulness, creativity and a drive to achieve measurable results
  • The ability to:
    • Take direction but also make decisions and solve problems independently, effectively and creatively as appropriate.
    • Be flexible & creative in responding to new challenges
    • Plan and manage a wide range of projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
    • Communicate and work effectively with others on teams as well as with individuals at every level both inside & outside North Light
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Handle multiple tasks in an often fast-paced environment
    • Organize schedule and meet deadlines
    • Have an organized and detail-oriented approach to work
    • Lift 35 lbs.

Work Schedule

Part time hourly position (25 hours/week); ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Compensation

Non-exempt position; Pay range $15.63 to $21.88 hourly; commensurate with experience.
