Job Description: Who are we? City of Paws Pet Care is a pet retail store & community resource center located in Manayunk, Philadelphia. Our store is located at 4167 Main St, in the bustling Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia.

What is the employment opportunity? We are seeking a Store Manager to grow our pet retail business and lead our team of passionate pet professionals. This is a full-time leadership position and requires having open availability. This role includes the following responsibilities:

Store Operations

  • Build relationships with customers and provide assistance, product and nutrition education, address individual needs, and create a personalized experience to promote repeat business
  • Perform customer transactions on the POS system; manage the POS system’s software and hardware; manage the cash drawer
  • Seek customer feedback on products and processes to increase customer satisfaction
  • Manage weekly purchasing of products for store – create POs, coordinate with other managers and team members to order items low in stock, and handle special order requests
  • Manage distributor and independent vendor deliveries - handle receiving, counting, putting away items, organizing the stock room, etc.
  • Manage our customer loyalty program - selection of monthly offers and frequent buyer programs, upkeep customer list, assist with monthly newsletter creation, etc.
  • Participate in the creation and management of events: adoption, training, nail clinics, and Main St sponsored events (StrEAT Fest, Arts Fest, Dog Day of Summer, etc.)
  • Perform local home deliveries for online orders on an as-needed basis

Sales Growth

  • Responsible for meeting monthly individual and team sales goals and quarterly KPIs
  • Identify and implement new product/service lines to improve profitability, productivity and ways to provide a high-level of consistent, repeatable service
  • Organize and maintain special order requests, pickups and deliveries – coordinate orders with Assistant Store Manager
  • Create unique store sales each month to increase store sales; work with brand and distributor reps to gain their support of the sales; plan inventory needs to support sales
  • Meet monthly and quarterly team and individual sales goals
  • Promote sales, promotions, events, etc. with our Social Media Manager

Team Management

  • Manage a team of store associates during their scheduled shifts
  • Assist employees with meeting their individual and team sales goals
  • Plan associate scheduling and identify gaps to ensure full coverage based on store needs and employee preferences
  • Create quarterly employee reviews and provide feedback to employees
  • Hiring: manage the hiring process, from posting the job to holding interviews to making job offers. Work closely with the Founder & CEO
  • Onboarding & Training: manage the onboarding process, training new hires, writing training processes, and providing feedback to new employees
  • Submit Payroll on a bi-weekly basis
  • Promote open communication with the team and utilize company communication tools
  • Create and manage monthly sales competitions to promote add-ons

Who is an ideal candidate? We are seeking candidates with the following experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience directly related to managing a retail store, employees, and retail sales operations (pet retail is a bonus!)
  • Ideal candidates have experience working professionally with animals (retail, vets, daycares, dog walking, etc.)

Job Requirements - Candidates must also meet the following requirements:

  • Have open availability: be willing and available to work evenings and weekends, as well as some holidays
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time and be able to lift up to 50 lbs or more on occasion
  • Have a reliable vehicle of your own to get to/from work and make occasional deliveries
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Own a smartphone with internet access
  • Be willing to submit to a full criminal background check
  • Be able to carry out all of the job tasks listed in the job description
  • Must adhere to all operational and safety standards outlined in the employee handbook

Compensation & Benefits: Our Store Manager role is an hourly position, $18/hr starting with compensation rates varying based on experience and job duties. This position has the potential to transition to a salaried position. This is a W2 position - we'll provide ongoing training and support from our dedicated team of pet professionals!
