FACES OF MNYK: Pat from Main Street Music

From rock to R&B, Bob Marley to The Beatles, Main Street Music located at 4444 Main Street has a huge selection of tunes that'll satisfy any musical palette. We chatted with Manayunk veteran, and owner of Main Street Music, Pat about his delightful Main Street shop.
What is your favorite part of this job?
Turning people on to music — good music.
1-2 words to describe Main Street Music and why?
(Pat): I'd say knowledgeable and welcoming.
(Customer): And warm. I don't mean the temperature, but you get a warm feeling when you come in here.
(Pat): There you go. I think what he has to say is way more important, to tell you the truth.
What is your favorite genre of music?
The Beatles.
What makes your store unique?
Relationships. Most of the people that shop here end up being long time friends. They gather here and meet, so the relationships we build with regular customers is what makes us unique.
What are some of the challenges you face owning your own business?
Amazon.com, where do I start? Our industry is tough because of technology, and just day-to-day survival of a bricks and mortar store. But everybody has that problem. We overcome it by allegiance from our regular customers.
Favorite store item?
Good used vinyl.
I love Manayunk because...
It helped me earn a living for 25 years.
