STROLL THE STREET: Halfway Point

STROLL THE STREET: Halfway Point

By: Jessie Walker

July is now coming to a close, which means that we are more than halfway through the summer. Don’t panic though, because we still have six more Stroll the Street events!

If you haven’t attended Stroll the Street yet, it occurs every Thursday night throughout the summer until September 7. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., there are food trucks, vendors, and activities set up on Cotton Street that all revolve around a different theme each week. Visitors and residents of Manayunk can also stroll down Main Street where restaurants and retailers have $5 drinks, appetizers, and other specials, just for the event.

With great weather for most weeks, members of the community have been able to enjoy family-friendly activities and delicious food and drinks that make for the perfect summer night. Dog lovers joined us for Pet Night, where they could snap a selfie with Tau the Mastiff dressed as a lion, meet with adoptable dogs, and get a family picture with their own pet. Art was in abundance for Art en Plein Air Night, as local artists gathered to paint the scenes of Main Street. Fitness Night and two outdoor movie screenings of “Despicable Me” and “The Sandlot” were also among the theme nights that filled the streets, shops, and restaurants of Manayunk.

After participating in activities on Cotton Street, event-goers strolled down Main Street and relaxed and grabbed a bite to eat. Music from Jake’s and Cooper’s Wine Bar floated through the air, while the smell of burgers drifted from restaurants like Winnie’s and Bourbon Blue. Shops such as Pineapple on Main also welcomed visitors for sales and weekly workshops like DIY lightning bug catchers.

If you’re feeling like you missed out - don’t worry! Stroll the Street is still in full swing, and we have even more great theme nights coming up. Toast marshmallows with us on National S’mores Day on August 10 or close out the summer at our End of Summer Bash on August 24. We also have one more outdoor movie screening on August 31 where we’ll be featuring “La La Land”. Bring your friends and family to Cotton and Main Street for a summer night of fun and good food! See below for the rest of the Stroll the Street theme nights:

August 3: Beach Night

August 10: National S’mores Day

August 17: Back to School Night

August 24: End of Summer Bash

August 31: Movie Night - “La La Land”

September 7: Phoodie Night
