Five Things to Do This Fall

by Tiffany Sellers

Summer may be over, but there’s no halt on the fun. Fall in Manayunk is a beautiful time, with cooler, crisp weather and colorful trees, and packed with fun events and activities! Whether you enjoy the outdoors, the comfort of a nice cocktail in an aesthetically pleasing restaurant, or a little bit of both, there’s something for you this season in the ‘yunk. Here are five things to do this fall around the Manayunk area:

Halloween in Manayunk will be taking place October 22 from 11 am – 4 pm. Not only will there be trick-or-treating for children and a costume parade for our four-legged friends, but there will also be games, pumpkin carving, and haunted food tours through Chew Philly. It’s a perfect day for family fun and fall festivities!

Visit Forbidden Drive and take a hike through the many trails. Taking the short drive or bike ride up the hill to Valley Green is not only a scenic venture this time of year, but it’s also a healthy one. With the vast number of trails, visiting the park this fall will have you reveling in the beauty of nature. You can hike, bike, run, or simply just sit and enjoy the peaceful setting. Be sure to take a few selfies on the bridge!

Get your drink on at Manayunk Cocktail Week from November 7-13! Local restaurants and bars create a marvelous menu of crafted cocktails just for this special week. Not only will there be a cocktail stroll down Main Street on November 9, but there will be numerous events at participating bars and restaurants, including Bourbon Blue, Manayunk Brewery and Restaurant, The Goat’s Beard, and the triumphant return of Jake’s and Cooper’s Wine Bar Restaurant, just to name a few!

Explore the fall food! Restaurant week may have just ended but that does not mean we stop enjoying amazing food in Manayunk. Fall can be an exciting time for those of us enthusiastic about food. Explore the menus this fall for your fix of pumpkin and other fresh fall ingredients, such as Winnie’s LeBus, which has a fall pear salad on their menu!

Support the local small businesses this fall. There are so many amazing businesses in the area, some of which have been around for years and others that have newly opened. Gift boutiques such as The Little Apple and bakeries like Sweet Elizabeth’s have tons of season-appropriate goodies and treats, while Dwelling is a lovely spot for gorgeous décor and furnishings for adding those autumn touches to your home. Fall is the time to start thinking about holiday shopping, and there are tons of places right in our neighborhood. And don’t forget that Small Business Saturday is November 26!

Whether you are a self-proclaimed “foodie,” a Halloween enthusiast, someone who enjoys holiday shopping at local businesses, intricately crafted cocktails, or just someone who likes to have fun and enjoy an autumn afternoon, Manayunk has something for everyone! Visit our news and events page for more details on the Halloween, Cocktail week, and Small Business Saturday events!
