7 DAY SPOTLIGHT: Clear-Coat Screen Protection

Blog post by Manayunk Development Corporation Spring  Intern, Meghan Gatti.

How many times a day do you find yourself wiping fingerprints off you phone? How many times do you drop your phone per week? How many phones have you had to replace over the years due to a broken screen? Best friends since highschool, innovators and inventors Dennis O'Donnell and Eric Griffin are passionate about technology solving everyday problems. They invented Clear-Coat in 2007 to protect smart phones and devices from scratches and damage.

Clear-Coat’s original 360 degree protection is a uniquely designed urethane film that protects your phone from everyday wear and tear without the bulk of a case. It also fits to the curves of devices, like the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy, and defends against scratches that wear on your device and cause breakage in the long run. "We love being able to innovate and manufacture exciting, new products right here in Philadelphia — our long-time hometown," says the co-founders.

Clear-Coat Original can be applied to more than 2,000 different devices. Application is easy — simply spray the application solution directly onto your phone or device, and then apply Clear-Coat with a squeegee. Unlike other plastic screen protectors, Clear-Coat is made from optically clear urethane film specifically designed to protect from scratches. Its natural ability to stretch and let air out makes it completely bubble free and a perfect solution for curved surfaces. Best part? Every Clear-Coat comes with a Lifetime Replacement Guarantee. Whether you had trouble installing it on your device or your Clear-Coat is fading, peeling, or coming off, Clear-Coat will send you a replacement.

All of Clear-Coat's products are made in a very hands-on way right here in the Manayunk facility, and all raw materials are sourced from other US manufacturers. “This isn't about building positive PR, and it isn't about being a ‘green company’ — this is common sense. We get better products, faster, for less fuel, and employ more local people. Half of our team members live right here in Manayunk and others live less than 20 minutes away. By being a small business, we impact our local economy in a big way.”

Clear-Coat offers a variety of different cases and colors. With its unique futuristic look and iridescent finish, Clear-Coat’s Aurora gained huge popularity amongst the tech community. “We try to experiment with different finishes and materials whenever possible. We like to shake thing up and test our limits — it allows us to innovate and keep an edge in this fast-moving, highly competitive space”. Clear-Coat offers textured skins with better grip called RealFeel. RealFeel skins use technology that guarantees no bubbles, easy installation, and defends against scratches on your device. With bright colors and textured cases, there is a Real-Feel skin for every taste, without the bulky look of a case. This also prevents your phone from slipping out of your hand!

Shattered and cracked screens are the number one reason for device repair and replacement. FUSION is the combination of three powerful layers with patented TriACTIVE™ impact protection which makes the phone's screen 3x stronger. Three years of research and design have proved FUSION's ability to withstand breaks. Advanced clarity. Easy application. Smooth as glass. This product was invented and is manufactured in Manayunk. So why did the Clear-Coat creators choose Manayunk? There is almost every type of public transit, a unique neighborhood feel. We can even walk to the Brew Pub for happy hour after work. Manayunk provides  a really great space for manufacturing due to all of the old factories on Main Street. "It has a cool city feel — but with enough room so delivery trucks can get in and out of Main Street." says co-founder Dennis O'Donnell.
